Going out for ice-cream on a balmy summer's evening is a favourite occupation of local families with young children and groups of smartly clad giggling girls. The ice-cream shop beside the Ota Darvasa Teahouse sells a particularly creamy variety, although batches vary from day to day. This is by no means the only place to buy ice-cream in Khiva but, be warned, most ice-cream on sale should more correctly be sold as iced milk as it tends to be insipid and runny.
Other good places to get a good creamy cone include the Blue Dome Restaurant and the small cafe just across the road from the Bakcha Darvasa.
