This small madrassah was built in 1905 and named by its builder, Salim Akhun, who was the chief judge throughout the Khanate at the time. Today it is a music museum with old photos of musicians and examples of musical instruments. Don't miss the mock-ups of a traditional music ensemble and a market scene on either side of the entrance.
Sadly the museum has no audiotapes of the traditional music for which Khorezm is famous. However a nearby cassette stall blares Uzbek pop and has become a popular dancing point for wedding parties on their tour of the Ichan Kala.
Like most museum staff, the ladies here make most of their money through selling the knitted socks and slippers which are unique to Khiva. Shop around since prices vary considerably.
